The Car

Before it was that very special car, we like to call the Super Hero car, it was a 1955 Lincoln Futura concept car. The concept car debuted at the Chicago auto show in January 1955. In 1959 the Futura made its film debut in the MGM movie, 'It started with a kiss'. After that, the car would have been forgotten and perhaps destroyed, as most show cars of that time were. However, it was later sold to car customiser George Barris. Despite the cars original cost of $250,000, the Lincoln Futura was sold to Barris for $1 by Ford motor company. Over time it was parked behind Barris' north Hollywood shop, where it sat idle for several years and was allowed to deteriorate.

In 1965, a tv show producer, William Dozier approached George Barris to see if he was interested in building the Super Hero car and he was given three weeks to complete the project. Seeing the bat-like qualities his 1955 Lincoln Futura concept car already had, George knew it was the perfect answer to the quandary 20th Century Fox has created. On October 11th, 1965 the Super Hero car was completed and delivered to Fox where it made its television debut on January 12th, 1966. It was considered so valuable at the time, it was insured for $125,000

The car sold for $4.2 million in 2013 at an auction, setting a record for a TV and Movie car.

So, are you going to be one of the caped crusaders? Come and take a drive!

As a non-petrolhead who had received this drive as a gift I had never experienced anything similar and was somewhat apprehensive about the day, particularly after watching the online briefing video with its various warnings (about lack of facilities) and disclaimers . In the event the team were welcoming, universally friendly and very professional. I now plan to return for a full day of 6 cars, not necessarily for the adrenaline but to experience driving the huge array of vehicles on offer.

Had booked for my profoundly physically disabled adult son to have a drive in a batmobile. All the staff from reception, registering, the driver and getting photographs were extremely helpful and supportive and went out of their way to make it a most accessible and enjoyable experience. Thank you so much. My son loved it. Would thoroughly recommend.

A good day, very businesslike, everyone pleasant and professional. If I can just say, we choose the Batmobile for the “Look”… Sadly, she looked rather scruffy and down at heel, the cockpit in particular. I know they’re worked hard and have to earn their keep but a wee bit of TLC would make a big difference. Oh, the steering wheel was about 4 turns lock to lock. A might dangerous really. Thanks

In 1966 I was seven years old, and a new TV show took the UK by storm, and I, along with the rest of my friends at school, was obsessed with…. Batman! And my absolute favorite toy was the Corgi Batmobile I would play with it all day long, and dream that I was The Batman. That I was in the Batcave. That I was climbing up the sides of buildings. That I was tracking down Catwoman…sometimes I still dream that! But the biggest dream of all was that I was driving the Batmobile. Well, I never did get to the Batcave, I quickly discovered people don’t like it if you climb up the sides of their buildings, but today, thanks to Car Chase Heroes, I finally fulfilled a fantasy that I have held onto for 54 years. I got to drive… The Batmobile! This fantastic day started by us arriving at Swyell Aerodrome on the 16 of May 2021 at 08.30, and I was quickly processed through the paperwork, I was then taken on my “Sighting” Lap very quickly and within minutes of this being completed, I was sat behind the wheel of the Batmobile. Whilst I was a little disappointed that the instructor wasn’t dressed as Robin, (mind you, he was a bit mature to be a convincing Boy Wonder) and the Bat Laser didn’t work to disable the cars in front of me, it was truly a dream come true. (Those who know me best will know that this statement comes from the heart!) If I had one suggestion, it would be for the Media Centre…I happily paid for the full digital package, but I would have been just as happy to pay an extra £5.00 or so to be able to take the package away with me on a flash drive instead of having to wait for an email. Having said that, it seems to be great service. All in all, I’ve had an absolutely fantastic day… now, if I can just get the wife to put on this Catwoman costume…

Had a wonderful time driving the Batmobile today, the experience was great fun and a lovely day out. They have just come out of lockdown and have all the safety stuff in place for a safe drive for us. The Batmobile was great fun to drive even if left hand drive and half a steering wheel, i really enjoyed it and may have even reached 30mph! Apologise to others on the track, But i very much enjoyed and would love to go again and maybe get my photos without a mask on next time!. Thanks to all involved. Great day out.

I was gifted this day for Christmas, and yesterday I fulfilled it at Tibenham. From start to finish everyone we met at the event was as helpful as possible, everybody working couldn’t do enough for you, and were nice, it was well organised and an awesome day, driving the batmobile was as awesome as I hoped, and a proper dream for a big batman fan. Dominic my instructor for the day was absolutely brilliant, what a quality bloke he was couldn’t have asked for a more helpful or decent bloke to instruct as I was leaving I found out it was his first time in the car instructing, he’s going to do an awesome job. I also treated my girlfriend to a high speed lap and she loved it. Thanks for a great day.
